National Doctor's Day 2020 in India will be celebrated on July 1st to thank physicians and doctors for their dedicated services to patients. The day honors the contribution and dedication of the doctors in the worst of times.

This day has special significance this year. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, doctors and physicians all around the world have been recognized for their selfless service and acts. Working continuous shifts and putting their own health in danger, this day gives a perfect opportunity to salute their work. 

Doctor’s Day 2020 is being celebrated for acknowledging the services of doctors and their huge contribution to the medical advancement in India. In the US, this day is celebrated on March 30 while in Brazil this day is celebrated on October 18 every year. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the doctors of India and shared a heartwarming message on his official Twitter account. In his message, he admired the exceptional caregivers who are at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19.

National Doctor's Day Theme 2020

Every year, the theme for Doctor's day is announced by Indian Medical Association. Last year it was 'Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishments.' The theme of National Doctor's Day 2020 is not announced yet. The theme is decided keeping in mind the larger scale issue related to the medical field and the professionals and doctors.  

History of Doctor’s Day

National Doctors' Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honor the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years. Dr. Roy was honoured with the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961. The celebration of the Doctors' Day is an attempt to emphasize the value of doctors in our lives and to offer them our respects by commemorating one of their greatest representatives. India has shown remarkable improvements in the medical field and July 1 pays a tribute to all the doctors who have made relentless efforts towards achieving this goal irrespective of the odds.

Significance of Doctor’s Day in India

Doctor's Day in India was established by the Government of India in 1991 to be recognized and celebrated every year on the 1st of July as National Doctors Day. It is celebrated to value doctors and their role in the country’s development. PM FME Scheme launched under Atmanirbhar Bharat

The PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (FME) has been launched under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’. The scheme was launched by Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal with an aim to generate investment of Rs 35000 crore and over 9 lakh jobs in the country.

Lockdown in Maharashtra extended till July 31

The lockdown in Maharashtra has been extended till July 31, 2020 for containment of COVID-19 pandemic. Maharashtra Government has announced that the ease in restrictions will continue to be effective such as government offices will continue to function with 15 percent strength or maximum 15 people, whichever is higher and private offices will operate with 10% strength.

Delhi Government to start its own Plasma Bank, asks recovered COVID-19 patients to donate plasma


Delhi government will start its own 'Plasma Bank' for treatment of Coronavirus positive patients. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged all the COVID-19 recovered patients in national capital to donate their plasma for the bank. Plasma Bank will begin its operations in next two days at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Delhi.

Madhya Pradesh to launch ‘Kill Corona’ campaign from 1 July

Madhya Pradesh Government will be launching ‘Kill Corona’ campaign with effect from July 1, 2020. Under the campagn, all the households in the state will be screened. The Government aims to generate health awareness and contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic through this campaign, which is slated to be implemented from Bhopal.

Government to start 4th Phase of ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ from July 3

The Government will launch the 4th phase of ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ from July 3, 2020. Under this phase, Air India will undertake 170 flights across 17 countries during July 3 - 15, 2020.

China passes national security law for Hong Kong

China has passed the controversial Hong Kong National Security Law. The law will come into effect from July 1, 2020 and carries maximum penalty of life term in jail. The law has been passed on the day that is commemorated as 23rd anniversary of the day when the British passed Hong Kong to China. Earlier, the law received unanimous approval of National People's Congress Standing Committee.

KK Venugopal reappointed as Attorney General of India

KK Venugopal has been reappointed as the Attorney General of India by President Ram Nath Kovind.  Venugopal appointment has been extended for one year with effect from July 1, 2020. He was appointed as the Attorney General in July 2017 following the resignation of Mukul Rohatgi. Venugopal himself made the request for his reappointment.

Odisha, Sikkim and Mizoram added to One nation, one ration card scheme


The Government has added three more states Odisha, Mizoram, and Sikkim under the One nation, one ration card scheme. The announcement was made by Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Consumer Affairs Minister. With this, the scheme now covers a total of 20 states & UTs.

PM Modi Speech Highlights: Garib Kalyan Yojana extended till November 2020

PM Narendra Modi on June 30, 2020 addressed the nation in the context of Unlock 2.0 that will be effective from July 1. PM Modi extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana till November 2020 to support migrants and poor labourers. The Prime Minister stated that essential ration will be provided to vulnerable families even after Diwali and Chhat Puja.

 ‘Gaganyaan’ Mission will not be affected by COVID-19 pandemic

Union Minister Jitendra Singh has stated that ‘Gaganyaan’, India’s first human space mission will not be affected by COVID-19 pandemic. He assured that the mission will be launched before India celebrates its 75th year of Independence in 2022.
